Getting the bicycle

Traveling on bicycle: which bike? Either bring your own, or get one on arrival: you save the transport fee and hassle, but take more risk with an unknown bike. I get mine once landed in Cape Town. It’s a second hand bike for ~100€ seen on thehubsa.co.za. Getting it was a little scary: I take a cab from the airport to the place. The driver stops his car and put the “taxi sign” from the roof inside, and tells me: “you don’t want to get out there, it’s not safe”. He eventually let me get out quickly, bring out my bags, and soon disappear. I come into the seller house, and kind of locked in that property, they don’t let me get even on the street: it’s a gang area, the neighbors are drugs dealers! What the hell I am doing here?
The family selling me the bike are not from there neither, a friend of them picks me up with the car 2/3 hours later, and I eventually buy the bike, get some carrier on it for my panniers I brought from Germany. Few days after, I have however to replace the rear wheel since the original rim was very bad.
