Amritsar

I took a night bus from Jammu to Amritsar: an interesting experience, the first time I saw fully sleeper bus: the bus is split horizontally: seats down and sleeper up. I got a sleeper for the 5 hours drive. The journey was indeed shorter than expected. Arrived the 24th at 3am, I had to find an accommodation at this time, not an easy task! Tried many and finally got a room in a hotel close to the bus stand. It was not the best idea: the loud horn of the travel buses woke me up!

Once woke up, I booked my train first for Delhi, which took me already 2hours, between the walk to the station and the queue. Then I share an auto rickshaw with a Chinese guy I met in the queue to the Golden temple.

The Golden temple is the most famous holy place for Sikh people, the major religion in Punjab. The procession of the crowd is particularly impressive! So it the free kitchen opened for everybody: Dal, chapatti, and rice are served in your plate, once you got inside (don’t fear the long queue!) I never saw such huge cooking or reserve “pot”, something like 1000 liters of Dal maybe?

Out from the mystic temple, the Jallianwala Bagh is a garden dedicated to a carnage made by the British in 1919, April the 13th: Indians were meeting in the garden demonstrating for more freedom and the British soldiers just opened fire on a crowd of about 20000 people, killing 400 men and boys and letting 1500 others wounded.
